What is the difference between an ERV and an HRV?

An HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) primarily transfers sensible heat between incoming and outgoing air. An ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) can transfer sensible heat and moisture when equipped with an enthalpy exchange core.
An ERV may help moderate indoor humidity by exchanging moisture between the air streams. However, it is not a substitute for dedicated dehumidification when the building has a high latent cooling load.
The right choice depends on the local climate, indoor humidity requirements, building use, and ventilation design.
